Why do rich guys get all the chics? I risk overstatement here, but there does appear to be a positive correlation (among men at least) between wealth and success in dating and romance. Are rich guys sexier? Are they more charismatic? Is money an aid in seduction? Ask most (non-rich) guys why they think rich guys do better and what you'll hear is some variation of the Golddigger Theory - women go after rich guys because rich guys buy them stuff, because they want a rich husband in order to enjoy a high standard of living, etc. While this is certainly true some of the time, I submit that this isn't the reason most of the time. Below are some alternative explanations: 1. Self-confidence We live in a society with a media that to a large extent measures a man's personal worth in terms of dollars and cents. After all, it's a lot easier to measure a man's net worth than to gauge the quality of his soul. Although everyday people are not nearly as uniformly materialistic as the media is, this emphasis on money helps a wealthy man enhance his self-confidence. And nothing is sexier to a woman than self-confidence, not even a bulging wallet. Note, however, that self-confidence is not the same as self esteem - self-esteem is how much you think you're worth; self confidence is how much you believe other people think you're worth. Thus many very wealthy and self-confident men secretly despise themselves. You are not the contents of your wallet. It's more difficult than you may think to break free from the social brainwashing that a man's worth is measured by his bank account, because we've all been subject to years of relentless social conditioning in this regard. Nevertheless, now is the best time to begin deprogramming yourself. Believe in yourself and she will too. 2. Social exposure. If you're single, how many women did you meet on your last trip between the TV and the refrigrator? Uh...zero? If that's all you can afford to do on a Saturday night, then that's how many women you're likely to meet. A roaring social life normally requires constant circulation, and constant circulation normally requires you to attend functions that cost money. Simply put, society is expensive. This one is hard to get around. I will note, however, that certain environments are cheaper to circulate among than others. Big cities typically require large expenditures to keep up a hot social life. Small towns require less. Also, in some environments the best entertainment is free - think of chatting up the waitress in a local diner or a bonfire party on a moonlit beach, for example. 3. Most young women can't afford to go out very often. There is still a significant income gap between men and women, and nowhere is it more serious than among single young women. She's not necessarily greedy - perhaps she's just tired of sitting in front of the idiot box night after night. And if she can't afford to pay her own way, then she's gonna need someone to pay her way if she's gonna have any fun. This one is also hard to get around. But a little creativity can turn inexpensive dating into unforgettably entertaining experiences. And an interesting personality can make even a TV date loads of fun. Happy hunting!
