How To Build A Website Part 1

There are two things that are required in order to have a good website:
  1. A Domain Name
  2. A Web Host
There are many companies out there that provide a wide variety of services for hosting and domain registration. Do a fair amount of research and find one that fits your needs. This one has some competitive pricing.

Registering A Domain Name

When buying a domain name, always try to get one with a .com TLD. The .com TLD (Top Level Domain) has become synonymous with any website's url.

Figuring out what you want to use for a domain name can be tricky. Most of the best domains have already been bought up over the years, so you may have to get creative. Pick a domain name that is similar to the subject matter of your website. Use this when your picking your domain name:

K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple Stupid

If you have a long domain name with a hard word to type, then you might loose a lot of traffic. Pick a catchy domain name that's easy to remember. Outboxed.com sounds a lot better than browncardboardbox.com.

Once you figure out what domain name you want, it's time to purchase it. Most .com domain names cost around $10.00 USD. If the registrar you are planning on buying a domain name with charges more, you may want to consider finding a new one. Most registrars require a credit card or some other form of online payment. Once you buy a domain, it's yours. The only reason that you could lose possession of it would be if you sold it or stopped paying the yearly registration fee.
