Great Tips For Buying A Timeshare

Helpful Hints on Time-Share Buying

Buying a timeshare can be a tricky thing. It is not a necessity; it is most definitely a luxury. Many people welcome the idea of travel, but in a society where people tend to be overextended more often than not, travel is a luxury that is never realized or if it is realized, it is realized at the expense of many things such as sufficient savings and an adequate retirement plan.

America is a society of instant gratification rather than long-term goals and planning. Owning a time-share allows the owner a little slice of sunshine or snow (whichever the preference would be) for a certain amount of time each year. You can choose to have a certain week each year or any week during a certain season. This allows some flexibility. There is always the possibility of exchanging weeks with someone else or giving your week away to a friend or relative one year. You also have the option of purchasing multiple weeks.

One thing to keep in mind is that a time-share is not an investment. It is highly unlikely that you will ever recoup your investment. But it is important to insure that the time you own the time-share and the amount of enjoyment you received from it are worth the investment. If you do not share this feeling, perhaps a time-share is not for you. It is definitely not for you if your goal is to make money in the future on your transaction.

Here are some tips that will help you have a great time-share buying experience.

  1. Do your homework. Make sure you know exactly what you are getting for the purchase amount so that there are no surprises down the road. Make sure you know what kind of facility your share will provide, how many rooms, how many days, any services provided, and any associated fees.
  2. Check out the group you are purchasing from. You do not want to spend this kind of money only to discover that you’ve been had. Make sure the people you are dealing with have a good track record for honesty and integrity.
  3. Talk to others who have time-shares with the same company and the same facility. Ask if they are happy with their experience and if they have any advice to give you. People love to talk about themselves and are often more than willing to share both good and bad experience if you are willing to listen.
  4. See if they offer a ‘preview’ weekend. This can be something as simple as a weekend at a reduced rate provided you attend a meeting (this meeting generally consists of them trying to draw you into the deal). It’s a good idea to attend one of these details before purchasing if at all possible though just to see how you like the facility, the area, and the amenities available.
  5. Do not buy a time-share if you are not in the financial position to do so. This seems like such simple advice and yet it overlooked more than any other advice that is given. This should be a luxury once you’ve reached a point in your life when you can enjoy it not one more thing that will work to overextend your financial situation.

If you follow these simple steps you should be well on your way to time-share ownership and a nice relaxing vacation. Besides you deserve a chance to relax after the hard work of choosing the right time-share for you.
