Choosing A Boating Gift

Choosing a gift for someone special can always be a bit of a challenge. But when you’re buying for a hobby enthusiast, your options expand as a host of hobby-related gifts becomes a possibility. For boating enthusiasts especially, a well chosen boating gift can be both enjoyable and functional.

There may be those people who are difficult to buy for because they seem to have everything. But when it comes to boaters, “everything” is a bit more difficult to acquire; for this reason, giving a boating gift means that you’ll always have something to buy that special someone – outfitting their boat with the latest and greatest in modern gadgets.

Today’s sophisticated boats are outfitted similar to floating homes. Subsequently, you can easily find a boating gift that adds to the convenience and luxury of the boat’s living quarters. Boating supply stores offer a wide variety of convenience items and appliances that are specially designed for onboard use such as blenders and coffee makers. Another boating gift could be a host of safe and attractive dinnerware that the boat owner can use to entertain. There are a variety of beautiful cocktail glasses, plates, serving trays, and utensils that you can arrange in a basket with linens that complement the boat’s interior.

To go along with this boating gift theme, you may want to present the boat owner with an additional basket of easily stored, non-perishable food items to keep on board for entertaining purposes such as small jams, crackers, or a nice bottle of wine. If you are staying on board for the evening or for an extended period of time you could think about bringing along a pre-arranged meal for an onboard feast.

There are also a host of decorative items to give as a boating gift including small candles, placemats, picture frames, and non-breakable vases. You could even put together a lovely basket with miniature toiletry items including small towels, creams, lotions, soaps, and powder.

Of course, there are also quite a few practical items that would serve as a wonderful boating gift, although these tend to be on the pricier side. Check with the boat owner to try to find out what items he/she still needs but hasn’t yet purchased.

No matter what you choose to purchase, the truth is that a thoughtful boating gift for the water enthusiast in your life will be well received and much appreciated!

Learn How To Develop Your Technical Skills In Nature Photography

Photography is the art of creating a special medium beyond your self-expression. It requires good taste, good sense of appreciation and technical skills in capturing the subjects. Many believe that they can profit in this chosen field as long as they develop their technical skills and knowledge in becoming a talented professional photographer.

Nature photography has always been inspiring and exciting. It thrills every photographer with its mystery and the beauty of wildlife.

One of the most amusing subjects for nature photographers are the birds.

Bird behavior has had great impact on pictures. Birds attract many photographers with their mastery of flight and their distinct diversity in nature.

Here are some guides that will help you focus on improving your skill in capturing images on these magnificent creatures of nature.

1. You need to know what interests your mind. You have to know your topics so that you will not be confused. You should learn more about birds by investing on a good birding guide. This will help you know more about their behavior, breeding season, and bird eating habits.

2. You should always keep your subjects well being in mind. Avoid those instances that create stress on your images. If the bird is not in its natural behavioral characteristic, you should leave the bird alone and allow the bird to recover first from its stress.

It can also be a sign that the bird might be nesting eggs somewhere near the site and that is why it portrays a “predator luring” behavior.

3. You should make your vehicle as your just like your camera an accessory. In some areas, you may see birds more adapted to vehicles and consider your vehicle less harmless than a person positioned on his tripod trying to take a good shot. You should learn how to be patient in finding the right place where the birds can accept the presence of your vehicle.

4. You may use fast shutter speeds cameras. This device is good in taking great bird images. Most birds are fast and can disappear quickly in the air. You may need a 1/500 second shuttering speed. This can capture sudden movements and flights.

As a nature photographer, you should maximize your surroundings. A good place for you to start your hobby in nature photography especially with birds is in your own backyard.

You can then practice the art and techniques of capturing great shots and wonderful images that nature has to offer.

Ice Cream Candles And The Delight Of The Untasted

When you first hear of ice cream candles you really expect to see real tasty ice cream decorated with candles, like a birthday cake. Well, this is only partly true: ice cream candles look delicious, yet you won't know what they taste like since they are actually made of wax. Highly appreciated particularly in cafeterias, sweets shops and at home, these kind of candles are the touch of color you may be missing. One thing is for sure, they are very likely to open the appetite for sweets. The creation of such funny candles brought not only bright spirits to our homes, but made room for a whole industry to develop.

Color and popularity

Given the huge popularity of ice cream as dessert, we can only imagine the huge success of ice cream candles. The most popular forms used are chocolate ice cream candles, banana split candles, waffle cups or sundaes. They all look so very real that unless you saw the wick or knew that you're watching a candle you'd definitely feel like tucking in. Very often, the windows of sweet shops are decorated with such nice candles given the fact that the actual ice cream would eventually melt. They are of a huge impact at home too, as they add the drop of fun your home may need.

Usually, a regular ice cream candle is made of soy wax and gel wax to simulate the “sauce”. Every single part of an ice cream candle is very scented to suggest the real flavor of ice cream. Imagine how your mouth may water only at the sight of it, not to mention the aroma! One thing is for sure, these candles are sheer delight, and they are not too expensive either. One costs between $8 or $13, depending on the type you purchase. Moreover, the glass that remains after the candles burn down can be reused, in any way you want.

Gift shopping

Very often ice cream candles can be chosen as gifts for friends or family you want to make smile. No wonder they are the joy of kids, but if you're giving them as a gift, you'd better have some real ice cream with you too, since at a certain level it is quiet difficult to make the difference between the real ice cream and the ice cream candle. Go on, have fun!

Using A Drywall Sander

If you plan on doing a drywall job, make sure you have the basic equipment handy. You need putty trial, a tray, sandpaper, joint putty and a scraper.

Start by sanding down the walls to remove any lumps or bumps. Then wipe down the walls to remove any of the sand left from sanding. You should be down to a base and see a clear white area. (This does apply to wood areas of the walls.)

If there are any holes in the walls, use putty trial and a scraper to fill them in. This may take a few coats, so keep repeating the process until the hole is completely filled in . Scrape it down completely smooth.

Then sandpaper the wall once again and wash it down to remove all of the dust. Let it dry completely.

Once you have taken these steps, you are ready for drywalling. The drywall kit will have all of the steps that you need to follow. Make sure you follow them closely.

Once the drywalling is done, paint the surface for the look and finish you want. You will need a few coats since this is bare wall that you are dealing with. Then you can rearrange the furniture and reinstall the curtains and any wall accents in the room

Be careful that the paint is completely dry before you put anything against it. Make sure when you paint the base that you use a shield to prevent any paint going on the wall.

Once your painting is dry, you can add texture or some other feature if you like. New curtains to go with the new paint color are always a good idea, and yo may want to put around some vases with flowers to accent the new color.

Finishes such as twirling, popcorn effect and other textures can add a lot of interest to the room. You can make the twirl texture in the shape of flowers, leaves, etc. Just use your imagination.

The new curtains, or reorganizing the room will do a lot to bring out the new walls in the room. Improvements such as this bring a lot of additional value to your home. A home that has new looking walls instead of cracks and holes will be much more attractive, both to you and to potential home buyers.

It is very cost effective to drywall your wall and paint over a room. For less than a few hundred dollars, you can get a whole new look to a room TA will improve the value of your home.

It is worth the time and effort to put these kind of improvements into your home. If the walls need this kind of work, putting off the job will only make it worse and you will spend more time and money to get it done.

The Contemporary Art World In Guadeloupe

For many people, Caribbean art means lively local scenes and picturesque seascapes. But in the case of Guadeloupe's contemporary art scene, you may be surprised to discover a wealth of originality. While Guadeloupe's artists do call upon island influences in creating their works, the results are often far from expected.

Koukara

Art professors Klodi Cancelier, Lucien Léogane, and Jacques Lampécinado founded Koukara in 1988. Today it's Guadeloupe's major art movement. Meaning “the Caribbean colors,” Koukara emphasizes the unity of the Caribbean people. Its avant-garde aesthetic tends to be abstract or surreal, often with indigenous touches.

A key technique employed by Koukara artists is the Fibressences method, which creates mixed media pieces. Fibressences incorporates natural materials in artworks, such as bits of wood, coconut fibers, sugar cane, and sand. These elements add an interesting three-dimensional quality to the work, as well as creating a close connection to the environment. Paintings in vibrant and deep hues make up the majority of pieces, but there are some exceptions. Karine Gabon paints on hanging fabrics and other materials, with an earth-toned color palette that enhances her primitive motifs; she also creates abstract sculptures. And Klodi Cancelier's paper series juxtaposed pieces of handmade papers painted with different colors and symbols.

Koukara's popularity has steadily increased over the years. With many of Guadeloupe's artists taking part in the movement, its style and ideals will likely continue to thrive in the coming years.

Other Contemporary Art

Aside from Koukara, Guadeloupe fosters the individual visions of other artists as well. Thierry Bergame's surreal pop art displays a singular style and sense of humor. On the other hand, Déglas paints scenes with lighter tones and in a more naturalistic style, though he often includes fantastic elements like anthropomorphic animals and skeletons. Jean-Marc Hunt mainly uses objects like tools, pieces of wood, and even a sewing machine to create his sculptures. And while his paintings share a similar style with the Koukara group, his subject matter is generally quite different.

Even outside of Guadeloupe, its first-rate artists shine in the spotlight. They've participated in exhibits throughout the Caribbean, France, the U.S., Canada, and Costa Rica. In spite of its relatively small size, this island nation cultivates big talent.

Discover Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is a new hobby that is currently taking America by storm! Some people have even remarked that scrapbooking meets are the quilting bees of the new millennium, where women meet to make pages and swap local news and gossip. What are the benefits of scrapbooking, and why has the hobby become so incredibly popular?

People have been making scrapbooks for more than a hundred years, but the scrapbooking hobby has only recently developed into a multi-million dollar industry. The first scrapbooks were collections of poems, letters, and other memorabilia. Often young ladies of the nineteenth century would create these collections, which were called commonplace books. Young ladies who worked in paper or cloth factories took the scraps off the floor to decorate their commonplace books, and this is how scrapbooking got its name.

The Present

One of the reasons for the recent growth in popularity of scrapbooking is the relatively new understanding about how to correctly preserve photographs without fading. Older scrapbooking materials contained acid and lignin, which over time cause discoloration and fading in photographs. Scrapbook companies are now making paper, glue, stickers, and other materials out of acid- and lignin-free materials, which ensures the photographs last for much longer. Companies began educating women about the need for proper scrapbook paper and supplies, and the word spread.

Scrapbooking is quickly evolving from a simple hobby to an art form. Finished scrapbook pages are called layouts, and scrappers take great pride in creating layouts that are unique and intricate. Sometimes the layout is less about the picture and more about the techniques used to create the page itself.

Many women are quitting their jobs and becoming work-at-home scrapbooking consultants. These ladies host crops in their homes where other people come and use their supplies to create layouts. The consultant will educate her customers to the art of scrapbooking, and everyone makes at least one page during the crop.

Another reason that creating scrapbooks has become so popular is that scrapbooks are a fun way to preserve memories and family heritage for future generations. Children and grandchildren will be more interested in exploring family heritage through a colorful and well-made scrapbook than just through a series of boring photographs in an album. The scrapbook also ensures the photographs will last for future generations, rather than simply being thrown in a shoebox and forgotten.

Scrapbooking is the hobby that is only going to increase in popularity, and be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. No matter who you are and where you live, you have memories that are worth preserving. Get started creating a scrapbook today!

Art Of Jewelry Making

There are some jewelry hobbyists that exhibit their creative edge and brilliant talent when making their own jewelry designs. It is a very rewarding experience that is made quite simple through Internet jewelry websites. These fine jewelry retailers maintain an inventory of jeweler tools, castings and ring mounting devices to let a jewelry making enthusiast explore all possibilities at a reasonable price.

With so many gem choices to pick from, creative jewelry craftsman have the opportunity to cut, polish and enjoy brilliant works of art in jewelry form that they can give as gifts to special people in their life. These jewelers are very knowledgeable of what it takes to create a diamond, and are skilled craftsman when it comes to cutting multi-faceted gemstones with exquisite precision.

It’s hard to believe that an unattractive chunk of carbon could be crafted into something so beautiful. People love to wear these chunks of coal around their necks as pendants, and around their fingers as engagement rings to show the world they are truly loved.

Some jewelers like to explore all of the possibilities and keep an abundant amount of amethyst, citrine, aquamarine and garnets and other semi-precious gems on hand to fulfill custom orders that will add wonder and magic to someone’s day.

Some people have a particular stone in mind when they come in to place their custom jewelry order. They get captured by the beauty of loose gemstones that they see in a highly lit display case and hand select several gemstones to be added to their order. These extra touches of color will make a truly special wearable jewelry item that is custom ordered in their favorite setting.

The shaping of gemstones is offered in at least 15 varieties and each will prominently display the refined tastes of the particular jewelry fancier. There are heart shapes that are typically ordered by star crossed lovers who enjoy a continual reminder of how they feel for each other. The marquise, rectangle, square and round shapes fill a more traditional shape that is found in most jewelry fashions on the market today.

For creating unusual and unique shaped jewelry pieces, jewelry enthusiasts might choose a trillion cut or perhaps a triangle cut that will turn a unadorned ring band with few possibilities into a work of art in very little time at all. The rectangular Octagonal and Cushion shapes make dramatic shaped gemstones gifts for the most astute jewelry wearer in your life.

Whether you prefer a ring setting that is basket shaped, or prefer bezels with baguettes running vertical and horizontal in a swirled and very ornate jewelry creation, there are certainly many opportunities to display your favorite gemstones in exquisite styles that fit your personality.

Many people bring in their older jewelry pieces to have them remounted into exquisite settings that give new life and satisfaction to an old ring arrangement that they are no longer comfortable with. Gems such as diamonds and rubies are collectible items that families pass down as heirloom items that the entire family can enjoy with a little work by a skilled jewelry craftsman.

Finding A Good Knife Sharpener

Knife sharpening has always been one of the most important parts of tool maintenance, even dating back to the when the first primitive tool was made. In Colonial times, a grist mill was many times the first building to be set up when a new settlement was formed. This is because pioneers knew that without sharp tools, the building processed would be a very slow process.

Sharpening tools today are based on the same physics as the old grist mills and whet stones but a little more advanced and with a lot power. For instance, grinding wheels once powered by water wheels are now zapped with electricity to speed up the sharpening process dramatically. It now takes only a fraction of the time to properly sharpen its tools. A knife sharpener can come in several forms. The bench top grinder, for example, is good for sharpening axe blades and gardening tools.

It is important to keep your tools sharp for purposes of quality and safety. Chain saws need to be sharpened often to ensure a quality cut and, consequently, greater safety when cutting. An abrasive end to a long drill-bit attachment is inserted into the drill and tightened, and the drill quickly rotates the end as the saw blade is held against it. When choosing the best sharpener for your chain saw, look for a sharpener that comes with multiple tips since the tips will wear out quickly.

Tormek manufacturers a knife and scissor sharpener that is a bench top grinder with water which helps to reduce friction. The grinder comes with a complete package including a leather strop, though some users recommend a paper wheel to hone and stop the edges of the knife.

Versatility is the most important item to look for in a knife sharpener. It should be able to sharpen longer knife blades and strop the edges adequately. You should also consider whether or not the replacement parts are easy to obtain. These are all things that should be considered to ensure that you are getting everything you need, especially considering knife sharpeners appropriate for heavy duty maintenance can cost up to thousands of dollars.

Heavy duty grinding wheels and chains saw sharpeners are, of course, for the serious woodworkers and landscapers. For all others, there is a wide variety of less expensive and more portable sharpening tools available. The handheld sharpener you would find in a butcher shop is a basic tool requiring no electricity. Other variations include the wheeled knife sharpeners in which the blade is drawn between two hard wheels. Abrasive materials are drawn against a knife at about a thirty degree angle, and this is done whether it is electric and manual. Regardless of manual or electric, you can still get a quality sharpening. At the heart of how sharp a tool can become is the skill of the knife owner at angling and stopping the blade. Knife sharpening classes and educational courses are offered, which may be a good idea if having the sharpest tool in the shed is important to you.

Celtic Tattoos - Why Are They So Popular

Celtic tattos are still one of the most popular types of design despite their long history. These designs have existed for thousands of years, yet more than one thousand people search for information about celtic tattoo designs every day. So why are these designs still such a popular choice for tattoos?

The Celtic people have a long and proud history. From ancient times their people have shown an artistic ability to create complex works of art. These elaborate patterns took pride of place on their stonework, metalwork, weapons and jewelry. In fact ancient celtic designs carved in stone can still be found in both Ireland and Scotland.

Celtic tattoo designs usually consist of elaborate patterns of lines, loops and spirals that are linked together in a decorative manner. Occasionally animal designs, often depicting the tiger and the lion are incorporated into the tattoo design. These celtic animal designs (often known as zoomorphic tattoo designs) differ from traditional celtic patterns as the various lines and strands of the design end in animal heads, feet and tails instead of following a never ending path.

The meaning of these patterns is not readily apparant. To find the real meaning of celtic artwork you have to look much deeper. The constant interlacing of lines and spirals symbolizes the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds. And the never ending route of the loops and spirals represents the never ending cycle of life, death and rebirth.

Celtic designs also represent the fight and the heart of the Celtic people who were renowned throughout the world as courageous warriors. And it's thanks to a combination of these noble values and the timeless symbolism of these patterns that they remain such a popular choice for tattoo designs.

The most popular and well known of all the celtic designs are the celtic knot and the celtic cross.

Celtic Knot: This tattoo consists of decorative loops with no beginning and no end which represents the continuing cycle of life and death.

Celtic Cross: The celtic cross is usually a highly elaborate design containing many interlinking spirals and strands. Once again, the lines used to create the outline of the cross don't have a beginning or an end, and as such represent the immortality of human life and love. The cross is also significant as the Celtic people believed it would protect them from their enemies.

Celtic tattoo designs are a great way of expressing pride in your ancestry whether you are of Irish, Scottish or Welsh descent. In fact these designs are highly popular among people from North America who have Celtic ancestors.

However, you should be aware that due to the elaborate nature of these patterns, celtic tattoo designs are not easy to create. So before you start, make sure that you find a tattoo artist who has experience in creating celtic tattoo designs. An eye for detail and the ability to place the lines and spirals in exactly the right place is vital. And even once you find a talented artist, it will take a lot of time, patience and dare I say it, tolerance of pain, in order to get your celtic design just right. So make sure that you find the perfect celtic design before you go any further.

Star Tattoo Symbolism

Star symbols have appeared in various guides and contexts for thousands of years, each bringing different cultural, social and religious meanings to the people involved. They have come to symbolise positivity, high ambitions, dreams, ideals and even life itself. In fact, the greatest star of all, the sun is vital for our continued survival.

Star designs mean a multitude of different things to different people, but perhaps the most meaningful way to personalise the meaning of stars depends on the number of points depicted by the design.

4 Points

The four pointed star, either shown as a plus sign type cross with or without the ends sharpened, has close connections with the various Native American tribes and therefore has come to symbolise native american pride.

5 Points

The five pointed star is the most popular design by a substantial margin. If I asked you to think about a star, I bet you'd think of a five pointed design. But the five pointed star takes on many different meanings for different people.

First, there is the filled in pentagram. This solid five pointed star, like the type used on the American flag, is the most popular variety. It can form part of a tattoo design of almost any size and can appear on any part of the body. This design is the most basic way to symbolise a star and all the associated meanings of positivity and ambition.

Second, there is the outline of a five pointed star known as a pentacle. This is the most popular design used to symbolize witchcraft. This pagan symbol represents their quest for divine knowledge and the secrets of life. Each points of the star represents one of the five elements; air, water, earth, fire and spirit.

Third, there is the upside down pentacle which represents the darker side of imagary. This reversed pentacle is generally associated with the satanic or dark interpretation of ritualism. If you want to avoid this possible symbolic meaning, it's wise to choose the traditional pentacle star tattoo design.

6 Points

The six pointed star, or hexagram, is a triangle overlaid by another upside down triangle, and has existed since the early bronze period (3000 BC). Initially is was used as a magical symbol, but subsequently two further meaning have developed. The more obscure meaning relates to an ancient pagan god known as the Star of Remphan.

More commonly, the six pointed star represents the Star or Shield of David. After the arrival of Christianity, the symbol became popular among Jews and was adopted as the official seal of the Jewish community at the end of the 17th century. The six points represent balance and beauty.

7 Points

The seven pointed star, or septagram also has a variety of different meanings, each of which creates a vast array of tattoo design opportunities. As an added bonus, the septacle is not as popular as the other star designs so it could be a good option if you want your design to be totally unique.

First, it's the basic of the geometry of Le Basilique de Saint Quentin which represents the perfected man. The design is placed inside a square which represents the finite. Additionally, two circles appear in the center of the star, which are used to signify the sun and the role it plays in the center of the universe.

Second, it is known at the fairy star and is associated with elves and fairies. It represents magic and the spiritual realms and as such is seen a symbol of magic and childhood to many people.

Third, it is often the star worn by many sheriffs and law enforcement officers.

Finally, seven has long been considered a lucky or magical number. Lucky sevens, the seven wonders of the world, seven colors of the rainbow, seven notes in the musical scale etc.

8 Points

The eight pointed star or Octogram has a number of meanings. In modern times is the icon of the National and Auxiliary Fire Service, and for this reason is popular with firefighters across America.

It is also the symbol of the cross of Saint John.

In pagan terms it represents completeness and the regenerative cycle.

Finally, it was the emblem of the Knights of Malta and was popular during the Crusades. The eight points are said to represent the eight virtues of being a knight; Tact, Perseverance, Gallantry, Loyalty, Dexterity, Explicitness, Observation and Sympathy.

9 Points

The nine pointed star represents a connection as it is the symbol that unites the nine worlds in norse mythology. To many people it also represents completeness as it's the largest single digit number.
