Incorporating is the standard for many in business today because of the level of protection it provides in protecting your personal assets against the claims of creditors and lawsuits.

How To Choose A Video Production Company For Your Business

Finding and hiring a video production company for your business can be frustrating and risky for a small business owner, often having to take a crash course in video technology and hoping for the best. But by following these three considerations when choosing a video producer, you can drastically increase the chances that your video project will be responsive, visually stunning, and pay for itself many times over.

1. Determine the size of the production company you need. Although there are many factors that determine the cost of a video shoot (as explained later), the first consideration for staying in budget is the type and size of the production company. Large production companies have multiple studios and sound stages, editing suites, and a sizeable staff. These are the people that television stations and Hollywood producers call on when they need a local production for television, cable, or film. They are very experienced and produce fantastic results, but a considerable price tag must accompany such overhead. Often they are unable to service small businesses because they cannot accommodate such small budgets, as they'd usually have plenty of calls and projects from clients with deep pockets keeping them busy. The next step down is a smaller, full-time production company. Small and medium sized businesses are the core of their clientèle, so they are compelled to keep a video project as lean as possible, yet deliver the best possible quality for the money being paid. These production companies may have a small, single studio and editing suite, or they may work out of their home studio and rent a sound stage when the project calls for it. There may be one or two full time employees, and the rest are contract crew on a per-project basis. This helps translate into lower production costs for you. The final category of video producers is part-time, weekend-only videographers. These producers have a camera and a computer, and want to make some extra money on their free time. They can often underbid anyone else in town, because they already have their full time job and any extra money on the side is fine with them. But their ability to understand corporate, commercial, and broadcast needs are limited, and often shows in the quality of their production...it just looks like really good quality homemade video.

Choosing a medium-sized, full time production company will give you the most bang for the buck. This is not to say that large companies intentionally price themselves out of range for small businesses, some may be very willing to work with you. It's just that a large production house will probably not be as eager and excited to earn your business for a $2000 project when they're used to getting calls for $20,000 jobs on average. You don’t need to directly interrogate each company about the size of their business. Look at their website and see examples of their clients…if they seem to favor Fortune 500 companies, TV stations, and feature films, then you can assume that they’re a large production company. Or if you see a 30,000 square foot facility with immaculate furnishings, you can deduce that the price tag they give you will be sizeable.

2. Compare company demo reels to see who can give the best quality for your budget. Once you’ve determined the size of the video company to use, then it’s time to compare demo reels among the companies in your price range. One of the main factors that will determine visual quality in the portfolios is the format the project was shot on. Video technology changes drastically every 4-7 years, and what was broadcast quality 15 years ago with $50,000 cameras can be achieved with a $5000 HD camera today. The producer should match the video format with what provides the best noticeable quality for your budget.

There are many other factors that can determine the overall quality of a video production, but choosing the format is the foundation upon which many other costs are built upon. You have to ask yourself, "Will spending X amount of additional dollars on a higher-end format increase my response rate or accomplish my objectives better?" If you’re doing a TV spot, then quality is critical for that first impression. For an employee training video, immaculate image quality is probably not critical. That’s why it is the opinion of this author that the HD format offers the best balance of quality and cost, for any type of video production. As you watch the demo reels and portfolios of various production companies, pay attention to not only the mere image quality, but also the lighting, camera movements, and audio quality. One way to practice this is while you’re watching TV at home. Instead of zipping past the commercials of the show you’ve tivo-ed, watch and focus on the details of how national commercials are shot. Notice the smooth diffused lighting, the track/dolly camera movements (i.e., not much zooming!), and the deep contrast with vivid colors. Even if your video project is not a commercial spot, you can train your eye to notice quality by comparing it with the standard.

3. Consider the professionalism and business practices of the company. After a budget is finalized, the producer should create a treatment (blueprint for the video) upon which your contract will be based. You should know ahead of time exactly what will be done, what equipment will be used, what crew will be hired, and how each scene will be storyboarded. Granted there is an element of creativity that will vary and not necessarily translate directly onto paper, but strive to have everything in writing so that there are no misunderstandings or faulty expectations. Consider the personality and professionalism of the salesman, the director, or producer you are working with. Do you sense that he understands your industry or is eager to learn about it? Does he provide valuable input without being pushy or cocky? There should be a free flow of input into the project from both sides, without any ego problems. These traits may seem trivial, but video producers can be a creative and finicky bunch that take their art very seriously. It is paramount to have not only a creative team, but one who puts your needs and goals above their own.

For months, I have been researching numerous biz ops, ebooks, schemes, network marketing websites as well as just about every other thing you can think of that is in any way related to making a decent income on the internet. Wherever you look, there is somebody else promising to give you "the secret" for making a fortune online. With countless people calling themselves gurus, who can tell which ones are for real? One good rule of thumb is to always diligently study every opportunity that you run into before making a commitment.

I like to "Google" a brief descriptive phrase in quotation marks about whatever offer I'm researching followed by the word fraud or scam and see if there's a lot of negative feedback in the results pages. There'll always be some angry customers, but I measure the positive versus the negative and come to my own conclusion. As you've heard before, if it sounds too good to be true, it ALWAYS is! Don't be tempted to buy into some "turnkey system" or "cash machine".

If you are looking for some way to make a living online, you'll find more of these types of "products" than anything else. I have looked into COUNTLESS offerings and the vast majority are based on the same lie. That you can get rich quickly with little or no effort.

Believe me, it ain't gonna happen. What most newbies need most is a DETAILED "road map" on WHAT needs to be done, HOW to get started and IN WHAT ORDER to take on each task. What's wrong with most how-to products is that they lack enough detail or are not geared for those just starting out, or both. The best advice is to meticulously choose a well known marketing course and then get ready to APPLY what you've learned. There really aren't any substantial shortcuts, but education plus work and a little time will result in success.

The concept of outsourcing jobs is not entirely new though it has undergone a high degree of innovation and evolved into a global phenomenon. Briefly, outsourcing knows no limits and in today's context it may not be an overstatement if we say that outsourcing in several developed countries of the world can now be classified in an A to Z Directory! This admirable "employment generator" has brought the business world much closer though there may be quite some negative thoughts on outsourcing from several quarters. However, the snowball effect of outsourcing is now so popular that nearly every business is utilizing the benefits of cheaper or better stated "lower overhead" job distribution and delegation of tasks to freelancers around the world. It is time now to also consider how outsourcing should take place and what we need to reflect upon to make it a success. This is the careful art of "outsourcing" that must be converted to some extent into a "science" as well!

Is Outsourcing a Drain on National Job Opportunities?

Well, it can still be a million dollar question! However, a simple answer to this query is no. There are two reasons for outsourcing projects. In the latter case it is wise to think of the good deed one may be doing since it is indirectly related to employment generation. The two contrasting axioms one must carefully ponder upon are:

Importing can provide your e-business with cutting-edge products at rock-bottom prices. But it’s a very complicated process, and not one you want to go through alone. “Customs brokers and freight forwarders are your gateway into the world of international trade,” explains Custom House Broker Don Hoffman, of http://EveryOnlineShoeStore.com. “For commercial shipments, you’re legally required to utilize the services of a licensed broker. They’re the experts in getting the documentation and duty payments through Customs.”

Getting Good Help
Since most freight forwarders employ brokers to handle any customs issues, you might start by contacting a forwarder as soon as you make the decision to import products into the U.S.

You can find a forwarder in the yellow pages or search engines, but doing so is like playing the lottery—you have no idea what you’ll get. The real problem is sorting through third-party operations, posing as forwarders, who are really nothing more than middlemen, marking up your end costs. The safest way to find a reputable forwarder is through trade associations or publications.

A forwarder can help you calculate your costs up front to determine if you can be competitive with a product. Your manufacturer should be able to give you the tariff number for your product, which your broker will use to give you the local U.S. duty rate. When importing, you’re required to buy a bond that acts as insurance with Customs, in the event you should default on duties—although the bond doesn’t relieve you from legal repercussions should that happen. Bond companies underwrite the value of the shipment plus the duty, with either a single entry or annual bond. If you only plan to import once or twice a year, the single entry bonds are more affordable. But if you’re receiving goods on a regular basis, the cost of an annual bond may pay for itself. You need to make your determination based on the number of shipments you’ll be bringing in.

A Paper Trail
Your manufacturer will send you certain papers:

•a commercial invoice
•a packing list
•a detail sheet (depending on the type of product) that breaks down the components of a product and the way they’re manufactured so Customs can determine the duty classification
•an airway bill or bill of lading

You will need all these documents when you pay duties to Customs to prove what you owe; as the importer, you’re legally responsible for obtaining them.

Delivery Arrangements
Once you have your paperwork, let your forwarder know the goods are ready. They’ll contact the supplier, process the shipping bill, and book the shipment on your behalf. Your forwarder should be able to price out your shipment in various ways to see which would be most cost-effective. Air shipping is often overlooked as being too pricy, but it doesn’t require many of the minimums that ocean freight does and there are far fewer incidental charges involved.

Bringing commercial goods into the U.S. is an involved procedure, but don’t let the intricacies scare you. With qualified assistance, it can be a very profitable undertaking. Says Hoffman, “It’s labor-intensive; you have to follow through with everything. The key is to get good help—they can really guide you through the process and ensure you’re in ship-shape.”

If you do not have a website, one of the easiest and most profitable ways to make money online is with eBay. It is the largest online auction site, drawing millions of people every day. It is the first place most people check out when they are looking for items, both new and used.

You can sell almost anything on eBay from small inexpensive 99-cent items to cars, boats, real estate, and everything in between. By placing your item on eBay, you are placing it in front of millions of prospective buyers.

There are many ways to make money on eBay. I started out as a seller by trying to get rid of leftover items from a garage sale. I listed some books, clothes, and toys. I made a very small profit on the toys, a reasonable profit on the clothes, and a very nice profit on the books. That’s all it took for me to get hooked on eBay.

From that day forward, my goal was to make money by finding as many bargains as possible and selling them for a profit on eBay. I had always loved garage sales but now I had an additional reason for seeking out bargains.

I armed myself with as much knowledge as I could find by using eBay tools to search out certain items and learn what they sold for. I also learned how to determine the value of those items by a lot of trial and error. I only worked with items that I was reasonably familiar with and felt comfortable trying to sell.

Once I felt confident enough to start my eBay selling, I started scouring garage and yard sales, estate sales, and local auctions. I also used my local newspaper classifieds. Bargain hunting became my “business” and it was a business that was always challenging and exciting.

The more knowledgeable I became, the easier it was for me to find great bargains. I learned how to know if an item had profit potential by looking at it. I was amazed at what some people considered “junk” and the prices they sold for. (Remember, most people can be “haggled” with to get the price even lower!)

My most successful items (remember, I just chose a few that I was comfortable with) were items I bought at estate sales like textiles (bedspreads, doilies, etc.) and old tools. “Old stuff” sells quite well on eBay if the item’s condition is good. These same companies will maintain their legality by asking sales people to sell their products and not to sell the ability to sell the product. Some companies will give incentives for bringing another salesperson under an employee's wing, but no company should lead an initial sales person to draw his or her income solely off new sales people. That leads us into the bad companies.

A bad MLM company will conversely require a significant financial investment with little promise for buying inventory back. Furthermore, it will require hours of work for little pay. Additionally, a bad MLM company will offer its sales people little to no training besides a pitiful field manual and the products they should sell.

Finally, the illegal MLM company will hopefully not stay in business long, but they still exist. How can you tell if it's illegal? The sales people become managers who never sell a product. They suck their sales people dry by taking a part of their profits, and they invest little financially while taking huge returns on a job where they once sold but now do nothing.

Watch out for these companies. The legitimate MLM company does exist, but before diving into any MLM opportunity, a person should research the company fully.

The work at home industry is comprised of two types of people.

The first group want to work at home so they can wake late, work in their PJs, and watch their favorite soap. These people may have succeeded in the corporate world, or in a regular job. They may be university graduates. They are just looking for an easier way to live their lives.

These are societies adventurers. They are separated from the ‘lazy’ segment of society by the fact that they work much harder at making their ‘get rich easily’ schemes work than most CEOs work at making corporate America work.

These people are often seen as dreamers. Their motivation may to stay at home and raise the children, get out of the rat race, build multiple streams of income, start building wealth by investing, or to do a better job than their boss did. However, their drive is to succeed.

The second group are innovators.

Innovators come from two places. They may be part of the newly defined Indigo personality type. These people may, or may not be geniuses. They help others, and often self destruct because they were forced to fit into the 4 main personality types, living in a cubical, and forced to maintain the status quo.

The second type of Innovator may, or may not, be a genius. In fact, they probably have never been tested. They just know that they are trapped in the corporate world. They probably have not reached a level of success that challenges their capabilities – but one, or more, managers have launched their careers by stealing this innovator’s ideas. When there is a deadline, or problem, this innovator is forced to solve it – and they do.

Where to You Fit?

Women have a harder time determining where they fit in this scheme then men. A man works from home and he is left alone for most of the day. However, women are often expected to take on the housework, run errands, and stop working when the family arrives home at night.

I am mentioning this because these things must be addressed before the woman leaves the workforce. Statistics have proven that even a simple task like ‘throwing a load of laundry in’ can substantially tip the balance between success and failure.

Men have their own problems to face. The number one mistake they make is asking their wives to work as secretaries. Wives rarely have the skills, or motivation, needed to succeed. If they did, they’d be in the workforce. Do yourself a favor and either do your own paperwork – or hire a ‘real’ secretary – a skilled worker.

The odds are, if you see yourself in one of the top categories then you will make an excellent, and successful entrepreneur.

If you fit into the first category, then you probably do not have the management skills needed to succeed, but now that you are aware of that drawback, you can remedy it easily.

People who fit into the second category can easily succeed, but they may find themselves trying to diversify too much.

A good manager starts any endeavor by focusing on themselves first. Measure your own strengths and weaknesses and find a business that ‘fits’ your skills, drive, and personality.

Many Business Opportunities and franchises are now are home based. The advantages are great. You can wake up at 7.30 in the morning and start work five minutes later. Many of these opportunities only require a computer, high speed internet connection and a phone.

In this article I will examine the types of businesses that one should be highly sceptical off or even avoid altogether.

Avoid any multi level marketing scheme where you cannot see a market for the end product or the retail price of the product is far too high. One such scheme I researched recently involved selling vitamins at much higher prices than the high street prices. They justified their costs due to the fact that they had a superior product. Now in my experience if you as an agent are trying to sell a very expensive product why should normal people trust your product to be superior to a major high street store?

Be highly sceptical of gambling schemes that persuade customers that their chances of winning are higher through them then buying normal lottery tickets from the supermarkets. Most are crafty schemes designed to take money of normal people without any payout or much lower percentage of payouts then normal lottery tickets.

Definitely avoid any products that have not yet been independently tried, tested and approved. One such product that I heard about recently claimed that it could save users a lot of money on their fuel costs. The idea is that you use their product in your vehicle on a regular basis and you can achieve savings of over twenty five percent! I do not know if this product works or not. My main concern is that if it worked as well as it is claimed to do, why have the major car producers not yet latched on to it? Why have the large motoring organisations not yet recommended it to their members?

Avoid any scams that involve fortune telling, psychic ability or magic. Many of these are cleverly designed to take money of people who are easily fooled. Have you have heard of the saying “there is one born every minute?”

Definitely do not get involved in any pyramid schemes. Usually the only people who tend to make money in these types businesses are the ones who are at the top of the pyramid. Most people end up losing money in these and they have been made illegal in many countries around the world.

Be very wary of any businesses that claim that you can make a fortune working only a few hours a week. If they were as good as they claimed to be why are they selling the secret to you for such a small sum of money?

Finally never pay upfront for any home working business opportunity where they refuse to reveal full details until you have paid them a large sum of money.

Some home based franchises are extremely good. The great thing about buying a franchise is that in most cases you can speak to other franchisees and find out how well they are faring. They will be happy to tell you all about the franchisor, the products and the difficulties that they encountered.

Always speak to an accountant and lawyer before signing any franchise agreements and paying over any sums of money. A home based business does have its rewards and if you find the right opportunity it could be the start of a new life.

Trading Systems And The Carnot Cycle

Your goal is to maximize your profits and thus your return on your trading capital. But how do you know if your trading is truly optimized or if there is room for improvement and more money to be made with it? If it could be better, is it you or your system and how can you tell?

Trading systems, like automobile engines, are never 100% efficient and there are parallels between the two that can be useful to you. There are many concepts from Mechanical Engineering which can be utilized in Trading. One in particular is the Carnot Cycle.

The ultimate engine would convert every joule of the chemical energy in the fuel to work as that is the engine's primary purpose. In the real world, a certain amount of that chemical energy is lost to heat, friction, entropy and other inefficiencies.

For any given trading system executed perfectly, there will always be a certain percentage of trades that are not profitable and a certain portion that are. Additionally, most systems are based on lagging indicators and even "predictive" systems still rely on historical data. No system out here will pick the exact top and bottom of every market move, so the size of actual gains and losses is also a factor in the profit potential. So how can you tell what is the true potential of your trading system?

Back in 1824 Nicolas Leonard Sadi Carnot developed a thermodynamic model called the Carnot Cycle for engines which provides the maximum output that can be expected from any given type of engine. For example the Carnot Cycle for a diesel engine shows the absolute maximum work output that any diesel engine could attain.

This thermodynamic model was and is particularly useful for combustion engine design because in very clear mathematical terms, the Carnot cycle represents the ideal cycle possible. It clearly identifies and illustrates the greatest achievable efficiency for a given engine type.

Even a perfectly designed and manufactured diesel or gas engine can only hope to achieve the efficiency of the Carnot Cycle as calculated in the thermodynamic analysis. There will always be losses due to heat and entropy.

Fuel efficiency in automobiles has substantial consequence to all of us both direct and indirect as it impacts the cost of transportation for both ourselves and goods we buy.

Efficiency in Trading also has both direct and indirect consequence as it impacts both our account and our quality of life. Profitable trading provides monetary rewards and personal gratification, while inefficient trading can have a severe negative impact on our self-esteem and our quality of life.

Like the Carnot engine, you can determine the maximum potential for your trading system through backtesting it under ideal conditions, when every trade is executed perfectly in the market of your choice according to the rules and indicators of the system. Since most systems and software make use of lagging indicators, it is important to make sure that during backtesting you trade the system exactly according to the system.

During this process, you can make determinations that have direct financial benefit:

- what the true maximum profitability is for your system

- you would have a baseline or reference point for long- term planning for your trading.

- see if you've had reasonable or unrealistic expectations for your system and your profitability.

- if you find that your system is not capable of results that are satisfactory to you, then you need to look at possibly modifying or replacing your chosen system.

- if your system is capable but you haven't been seeing the results you expect, then you know to look for opportunities for improvement in how you trade.

- if you find that you've been making specific mistakes due to emotions influencing your trading, then improving your emotional management would be the most likely way to have a substantial impact on your results.

A focus on continuous improvement is a mindset and practice that has direct financial rewards for traders that pursue it.

Regardless of the markets you trade or the system you use, emotional management is imperative to realize the most from your trading, as this is one of the most common inefficiencies.

In Trading, inefficiencies are losses and missed profits and add up considerably over the course of a year. Having a clear understanding of what your system's possible best is, then identifying those inefficiencies in your trading is empowering and rewarding both financially and personally.

Doing business online can be a real challenge. It can be difficult to keep up with the latest technology and product trends. If you don't have time to do your homework because you are too busy working a full-time job and taking care of a family, it may make things seem impossible if you are not internet savvy. There are definitely some perks having a technology, marketing and product development staff at your place of employment. Just thinking about all of the people it takes to operate a viable business is overwhelming. I have spent many hours reading e-books and watching videos about how to make money online. Because I grew up in the 80s and graduated from college just before the internet was born, like a lot of us, I was never formally educated on the subject, so it was not second nature. I have been labeled by some as "the internet queen" because that is where I can be found during most of my free time. But let me set the record straight, I am far from living up to that name.

Here is a little background about myself just to give you an idea of how my mind works. It doesn't involve much technology. I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in sociology. Most of my work has involved kids who are neglected and/or abused. Fighting the desire to throw the laptop on my desk out of the nearest window because it won't cooperate, is probably the most technological thing that I do at work. Don't get me wrong, I have learned a lot about computers over past seven years. Sometimes I get lucky and fix the office printer or help someone with who is having problems with their computer. I will admit that sometimes I have no idea how I did it, but please don't tell anyone. It would ruin my "internet queen" reputation.

So, what I know best is kids. One thing I always say to parents is that, unlike adults, kids are like sponges. They can watch T.V, play a video game and hear every word of your adult conversations, all at the same time. One thing I always tell kids is that, just because I am an adult, does not mean that I can't learn anything from them. Kids seem to have the ability to retain a lot more information at once than adults, so the internet is not as frustrating for them as it is for some of us. So, what does all of this have to do with operating an online business? I used to think it had nothing to do with it until I came to my senses.

Kids these days have grown up on the web. They are aware of fashion and the latest trends. They know what they want and how to push all the right buttons so their parents will get it for them. They also know the limits of what to ask for. So, where do I go when I need help with understanding a program that makes no sense or want to know about the hottest selling items? I ask kids. My eleven-year-old niece and her friends helped me choose jewelry from one of my wholesalers to resell. I had no trouble selling what they chose. They know what their parents and other adults are looking for also. If you don't think your kids ever listen to you or know what you want or are interested in, ask them. You might be surprised to find that they listen to you more than you think. My niece tells me everything her friend's parents are looking for also. She listens to them, too! Kids are great marketers and know what advertisements make them want an item and why. Want to know a great blog site to advertise a product? Chances are a kid can tell you. They are also great researchers. If they don't know, they can find out, and usually it is faster than you can find it. Also, don't overlook the local high school and college computer geeks. That is where you should go when you need a webpage designed or get the answers to your tech questions. They work cheap and sometimes for free. Always reward them in some way, even if it just taking them out to dinner or helping them with something in return. You don't want to take advantage of them just because they are kids. They learn how to treat others by observing their parents and other adults and will mirror these behaviors. It is good way to teach moral values to our future adults. Keep in mind that this is the generation that will be responsible for taking care of you when you are too old to take care of yourself!

Hopefully, I have convinced you that kids can be an important and profitable part of your online business. Learn from them! They love to teach and their patience is usually better than ours. They are kids. They know what it is like for others to be impatient with them which helps them to be more empathetic and less irritated when they have to show you the same thing a hundred times. It's also a great way to spend quality time with a child and even teach them the value of work and the rewards to be gained. Give them praises for their skill, knowledge and help. There is nothing wrong with boosting a child's self-esteem along the way. Your business will be more successful when you give back to others in the process!
